Two local festivals are Top-10 in Kentucky fall events
(Filed September 3, 2013) West Kentucky- Two local festivals have been selected as Top 10 Festivals and Events for Fall 2013 by the Kentucky Travel Industry Association. Kentucky’s Western Waterland’s 38th Annual Arts and Crafts Show that was just held this past weekend in Grand Rivers and Barbeque on the River and Market Days which is upcoming in Paducah on September 26-28, 2013.
The annual Arts and Crafts Show in Grand Rivers draws tens of thousands of people to the small town located between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. In addition to the festival this year replicas of Columbus’ ships the Nina and the Pinta were also open for inspection at Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers.
Barbecue on the River in Paducah draws more than 50 competitive barbeque teams from across the south. Each year more than 60 tons of meat is prepared and sold to raise money for local charities. The barbecue teams compete for the coveted Grand Champion trophy and the bragging rights that come with it for the following year.
In order to qualify for the fall season, the festival or event must be held during the months of September, October and mid-November. The top ten list also includes Daniel Boone Pioneer Festival, in Winchester, Aug. 30-Sept. 1; US Bank’s Balloons, Tunes & BBQ in Bowling Green on Sept. 5-8, 2013; Main Strasse Village Oktoberfest, Covington, Sept. 6-8, 2013; Williamsburg Old Fashion Days, Williamsburg, Sept. 5-7, 2103; Roots and Heritage Festival, Sept. 6-8, Lexington; Kentucky Bourbon Festival, Bardstown, September 17-22, 2013; Keeneland Race Course, Lexington, October 4-26, 2013; and October Court Days, Mt. Sterling, October 18-21, 2013.
