Festivals line up weekend
Three festivals in the area will certainly give everyone something fun to do all weekend long.
The big weekend consist of the Aurora Country Festival, Harvest & BBQ on Barkley, and Octoberfest.
Aurora Country Fest
The 35th Annual Aurora Country Festival begins on Friday, October 5 and runs through Sunday, October 7.
The parade will start on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and will proceed through downtown Aurora on Highway 68 to the Aurora-Ross Fire Station.
The Festival will also include an Antique Car Show at the Mason Lodge across from Sirls Realty, Live Music at the KenLake Music Stage, Flea Markets and Crafts at the KenLake Music Stage property as well as the Aurora Visitors Center and concessions with good eats. In addition, numerous vendors will be staged along Hwy. 68 throughout the Aurora community.

The 25 year old tradition for the Smithland Annual Octoberfest celebration will be held on Saturday, October 6, at the Smithland Riverfront. It will feature vendors and food booths opening at 9 a.m., with the parade to follow at 1 p.m., starting at Level Street and going through to Walnut Street, following the theme “Come Home to Smithland.”
There will be Inflatable’s for the Kids, sponsored by Smithland First Baptist, Firefighter Olympics to be held at 3:00 p.m., Food & Craft Vendors on Court Street, The 5th Annual Octoberfest PowWow, Silent Auction in Baptist Christian Activity Center for Historical Society, and the Mini-Tractor Pulls at 4:00.
Also a Special Celebration Honoring Mike Cherry, at the Old Bank Building on Court Street at 2:00.

Harvest & BBQ on Barkley
Friday and Saturday, October 5 and 6, is the Harvest & BBQ on Barkley Festival held at Old Kuttawa Beach. The 2-day event features live concerts, great food vendors and attractions for the kids.
On Saturday there is a 5K walk/run, a Bark in the Park, Parade, Washers and Horseshoe Tournaments as well as Canoe/Kayak Races. You won’t want to miss the Apple Pie Bake Off, the Pie Eating Contest and more. At 4:00, the Fish Fry will begin followed by live music and rounding up the event with a fireworks display at 9:00 p.m.
