Calvert Lions pick Futrell to lead 53rd Christmas Parade

A tireless supporter of Calvert City Robert “Bob” Futrell has been selected by the Calvert City Lions Club to be Grand Marshall of the 53rd Annual Calvert City Lions’ Club Christmas Parade on December 1, 2012. Futrell currently serves on the Calvert City Council, is a long-time member of the Calvert City Lions Club, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Calvert Area Development Association. He had been the driving force for the development of Memorial Park located on Fifth Avenue in Calvert City.
Futrell’s family moved to Marshall County in 1969 when his father, Kentucky State Police Trooper, C.O. Futrell and his wife Faye were transferred to Post One in Hickory, Kentucky.
Robert and his late wife, Vicky, have two daughters; Melissa Purcell and husband, Scott, of Murray, KY; Robyn Futrell resides in Paducah, KY and is engaged to Brandon Cothran of Benton, KY; and one grandson, Tristen West of Calvert City, KY.
Robert started his first business with the help of E.M. Bailey to purchase a service station in Symsonia, KY. He also owned and operated Professional Design Manufacturing, Service Hardware, and for the last twenty years, Allwood Manufacturing, Inc. all located in Calvert City.
Robert has served as a member and past chairman of the Planning & Zoning Board and also the Board of Zoning Adjustments. He was elected to the City Council in 2006 where he has served the city for six years and is a member and past president of CADA (Calvert Area Development Association) where he chaired the organization committee for AmeriBration and Walk in Time for several years. He also served on the organization committee for Fern Fest and the Get Fit Run. Robert has worked diligently and tirelessly on projects that were beneficial to the city such as the construction of the memorial flag and benches that were generously donated in what is now know as Memorial Park.
Robert was encouraged to accept the invitation to join the Lions Club by the late Gene Ray and has served as past president and is currently serving as second vice president. He has chaired several fundraising events such as the Pancake Breakfast and concession sales that eventually became known as “Bob’s Burger Buggy”. He was also a leader in getting the Lions’ Christmas Parade re-set as a night-time parade last year. Last year’s parade was one of the largest and best attended in recent memory. This year the parade will be a night-time parade again and will begin at 5:30 p.m., line-up is at 4:30 at Pathway Baptist Church on West Fifth Avenue.
Robert is married to Winnie Walker Futrell and has a stepson, Brandon Walker and wife, Kelly of Calvert city, KY; two step-grandchildren, Brady (8) and Lyla (4); a stepdaughter, Megan Walker Moody and husband, Ed, of Nashville, TN.
Robert states, “I am deeply honored to be selected as the Grand Marshal knowing the history of the past Marshal’s contributions to this community and proud of my association with the Calvert City Lions Club.”
