Lions' pancake breakfast helps fund charity activities

(Filed March 2, 2013) Calvert City- The Calvert City Lions Club’s annual pancake breakfast at Calvert City Elementary School drew a large crowd of people this morning. The crowd was bolstered in part because the breakfast coincided with an academic competition at the school.

The Lion’s Club breakfast draws people of every age from all across the community and is in many ways an annual community reunion an occasion for people to see and visit with people that don’t see on a regular basis. The event also draws family groups to help support the Lions efforts in sight preservation.

Sight preservation is the number one charity for the Lions Club. Last year the Calvert City Club provided 47 pairs of glasses to needed people in the community. The club is also active in providing vision screening tests for children in the school system.

Calvert City Lions Club is the oldest continuously operating civic club in Calvert City. The Lions Club was formed in the early 1950s and has been very active in promoting and helping fund important community projects ever since. The club meets on the first and third Thursday nights of the month.
