(Filed June 13, 2013) Benton- Marshall County Commissioner Misty Drew had called for a special called meeting of the Marshall County Fiscal County and has asked Marshall County Judge Executive Mike Miller to recues himself from that meeting. Judge Miller advised The Lake News Thursday afternoon about the called meeting which was apparently sparked by a story filed on The Lake News website that was filed Tuesday about the court’s decision to seek a special investigator from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office to review the county’s former dog catcher’s filing for unemployment benefits.
A copy of the Email from Commissioner Drew requesting the called meeting is as follows: “In light of the development of circumstances in the past two days, including the release of confidential and inaccurate information regarding the court's actions in reviewing the unemployment issue at hand, I am requesting Judge Mike Miller call a special called mtg of the Fiscal Court for Friday, June 14.
If for some reason I have not heard a response on this issue by 3 p.m. today, I will assume that is a refusal to call a meeting and will then request the commissioners move to call a special meeting, (giving the required 24 hour notice) at 4 p.m. on Friday, June 14.
If by 3 p.m. I have heard no response, I will poll the other two commissioners to see if anyone else on the court will move to hold the special called meeting.
I would encourage this as I am receiving media inquiries as to the court's position on issues that have never been discussed publicly.
For press notification, this meeting will be held to discuss the hiring of counsel in the matter of the unemployment issue brought before the court on Tuesday and to discuss the filing of an official ethics complaint with the state board of ethics.
Please advise the media accordingly, whether the Judge calls or commissioners call.
I would note that due to the fact that Judge Executive Mike Miller's involvement in the issue is a part of the investigation, that he call, but recuse himself from participation in the meeting.”
The Lake News received the following notice of the called meeting from Judge Miller’s office today.
“The Marshall County Fiscal Court will meet tomorrow, Friday, June 14 at 3:30pm in the Joe Williams Fiscal Courtroom located at the Marshall County Courthouse, 1101 Main Street, Benton for the purpose of discussing an unemployment issue.”
