Cocke and Puckett to square off in May Democratic Primary

election(Filed January 29, 2014) Calvert City - Two Calvert City residents have filed to run for the District 3 Marshall County Commission seat in the May Democratic Primary. Von Puckett filed earlier in January and Dr. Rick Cocke filed to run in the May Democratic Primary before the filing deadline yesterday at 4:30 p.m.

Puckett, pictured at left, recently retired from Gerdau in Calvert City and is a life-long resident of Marshall County and Calvert City. Puckett has also served on boards of community organizations and has previously operated a business in Calvert City.

Dr. Cocke, pictured at right, is also a life-long resident of Calvert City and Marshall County. Dr. Cocke followed in his father’s footsteps and has practiced dentistry in Calvert City all his professional career. Dr. Cocke is also one of the longest serving members of the Calvert City Council.

The winner of the May Primary will have to face incumbent Misti Drew in the November General Election. Drew is unopposed in the May Republican Primary. Candidates for Marshall County Commission seats run in their districts in the primary but must run countywide in the November General Election. Drew has held the office for one term and has been active in issues across the county which will make her a formidable opponent in the November General Election.
