Dr. Ben Leonard has joined Dr. J.P. Lyles at Eyecare Associates in Calvert City.

Dr. Leonard follows his

heart to Calvert City

(Filed Feb. 26, 2013) CALVERT CITY- Dr. Ben Leonard is the new optometrist in Calvert City but he really isn’t a stranger. He has followed his heart home to Calvert City and says the best thing about joining Dr. John P. Lyles and Eye Care Associates is that he is from here. His Grandfather Minister Ralph Steury was the minister at Calvert City Church of Christ for 25 years and his Grandmother Dorothy Steury is a retired teacher who taught for years at Calvert City Elementary School.

Dr. Leonard says his biggest asset moving forward is his family’s contributions and investment in the local community. His father Jamie Leonard works in the Calvert City industrial complex and his mother Katie Leonard has worked for years as a teacher at North Marshall Middle School. Dr. Leonard said that going forward he felt like it was up to him to keep his family’s connections to the community moving forward.

Calvert City has a place in Dr. Leonard’s heart. He explained Calvert City was where he wanted to be and he wants to see the city grow. His plans he said are to continue to practice here for at least 30 years.

Last summer Dr. Leonard joined Eyecare Associates in Calvert City and began working with Dr. Lyles. He said he is very excited to work with Dr. Lyles and that in sometime in the future he expected to have a very smooth transition.

With the coming of a new optometrist there have been some new medical advances at Eyecare Associates in Calvert City. Dr. Leonard explained that he and Dr. Joe Ellis who is in the Eyecare Associates in Benton, are doing some laser techniques and are perhaps still the only two optometrists in far western Kentucky who are able to provide those techniques to their patients. One of the reasons Dr. Leonard wanted to come back to Kentucky to practice was the Kentucky is one of the best states for optometrists to practice.

Dr. Leonard and his wife Tara live in Calvert City. Tara is a middle school teacher at South Marshall Middle School and also is an assistant soccer coach at Marshall County High School. Her home town is Paris, TN. They met while they were students at Freed Hardeman University.

Athletics have always been a part of Dr. Leonard’s life and he would like to play a role with Calvert City Parks. He is a member of the West Kentucky Disc Golf Club and he plays in a rock and roll band called Cantageus.

Dr. Leonard and his wife are active in Calvert City Church of Christ and since moving back here they have slowly been connecting with the community and they look forward to what the future holds here for them.
