Fern Fest moves inside out of the rain

(Filed August 31, 2012; 4:45 p.m.) CALVERT CITY- The threat of heavy rain has resulted in Fern Fest being moved from Memorial Park in Calvert City to Pathway Baptist Church tomorrow afternoon. Pathway Baptist Church is located on East Fifth Avenue in Calvert City.

Fern Fest is a free jazz festival and children’s art show that is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. tomorrow. The event is sponsored by Calvert Area Development Association, City of Calvert City, Marshall Arts Commission and CFSB bank.

The children’s art show and performing artist are scheduled to begin a 4 p.m. tomorrow with music provided by a DJ. A short program is planned at 6 p.m. to recognize Lee Dietsch whose family is donating a bench in his honor in Memorial Park. Also during the program an existing bench will be commemorated to honor both Dorothy (Dot) and Bobby Fitzgerald. That bench was installed several years ago by the Calvert Area Development Association to honor the efforts of Bobby Fitzgerald at that time Mrs. Dot was still alive. After Mrs. Dot’s death the decision was made to ad her name to the bench because of her efforts as a member of Calvert Area Development Association.

Shortly after 6 p.m. the Paducah Jazz Ensemble will begin their performance. That program will last until approximately 9 p.m.

The program is free and the organizers of Fern Fest realized that making the change in location on Friday would allow more people to know the show was going on and would be on the inside out of the weather.
