Special Needs meeting to discuss S.O.D.A. POP Activity Center

April 24:  An open invitation is extended to attend our “Roundtable” discussion to learn more about the S.O.D.A. POP Activity Center (Society Of Differently Abled POPulations) Scheduled to open in June 2014 at 979 U.S. Highway 68 E, Benton, KY. Located across from Marshall County High School next to DeFew’s Custom Painting & Body Shop.
WHO SHOULD COME?
•Parents/guardians of special needs adults who have aged out of school;
•Parents/guardians of special needs children who attend Middle or High School and want to join our activities after school or during school breaks;
•Those interested in becoming a staff member for the SODA POP activity center;
•Those interested in becoming a volunteer for SODA POP activity center;

Exceptional Center to host Don Fightmaster Golf Tournament

April 26: It's that time of year again, time for the annual Marshall County Exceptional Center Don Fightmaster Golf Tournament on Saturday, April 26 at the Calvert City Country Club! 4-person scramble. Ladies and couples teams are welcome to participate.
Entry fees are $75 per person (includes green fees and dinner). If you don't golf and still want in on the fun, no worries, we have you covered! Dinner only, provided by Magic Valley BBQ, will be $10 per person. Shot gun start at 1:00 p.m. The BBQ Dinner will be at 5:00 p.m. at the Calvert City Country Club Room with the auction following the dinner. The auction is a great chance to help support MCEC while grabbing up some goodies as well. We are accepting donations for auction items if you would like to help us out. Just give us a call and we’ll make the arrangements.
We have hole sponsorships available for $100 and corporate sponsorships available for $500. All donations are tax deductible. We will gladly fill out a tax receipt upon request.

Workin' Friends to hold Golf Scramble to benefit Relay for Life

April 26: Workin’ Friends Relay for Life 4-Person Golf Scramble will be held Saturday, April 26, 2014 with a Shotgun Start at 7:45 a.m. at Drake Creek Golf Club. Located at 1 Torrey Pines, Ledbetter, KY 42058. Lunch provided by The Patio Grill. This is an opportunity to win prizes and play a really good golf course while helping Relay for Life.
Buy a Tee Sign to support our cause and advertise your business for $100. Registration Fees: $380 per team with hole sponsor sign; $280 per team without hole sponsor sign; $20 Pre-pay for Team Mulligans.

Lions Club to give great prizes at Community Picnic

April 26: The Draffenville Lions Club will be hosting a Community Picnic on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at 262 Griggstown Road. Come and enjoy a family picnic day of free food and games.  There will be hotdogs, drinks, popcorn, inflatables for the children and door prize drawings every 15 minutes from several local businesses. A raffle will be held for a 32” LED Flat Panel TV and a $200.00 Walmart gift card.  All money raised by the raffle will go to provide eye care and eye glasses for those in need in Marshall County. Enjoy a Toy Walk and also a Cake Walk at the picnic with homemade cakes, pies and cookies.  Bring your used eyeglasses and receive a free cake walk round. Come share a day of fun with our Lions club family.

29th Annual Purchase Area Senior Games to be held May 5-9

What is the best way to spend $10.00 these days?

A meal at your favorite local diner (maybe), a few movie rentals (possibly), a few gallons of gas…or a week of fun, fitness, and friendship. The Purchase Area Senior Games will be held the week of May 5-9, 2014. A one-time non-refundable $10 registration fee ($15 out of district) entitles you to participate in all the events and official game t-shirt. Photography class at WKCTC

Begins May 6: Summer brings the chance for photography enthusiasts to learn the fundamentals of creating great photographs in a five-week class at West Kentucky Community and Technical College beginning May 6.
Photographic Fundamentals instructor Jim Ethridge, an award-winning photographer, will cover topics such as F-stop, shutter speed, ISO and composition for five consecutive Tuesday evenings on May 6, 13, 20, 27 and June 3.  Each class will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. in the Emerging Technology Center, Room 112. A short field trip is planned for May 27.
The cost for the five classes is $90. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera. A specific type of camera is not required for the class. Call 270-534-3335 to register.

Exceptional Center to hold annual Academy of Stars

May 8:  Marshall County Exceptional Center will hold their annual program, “Academy of Stars” on Thursday, May 8 at 6:00 p.m. The Center is located at 198 Old Symsonia Road in Benton. RSVP 270-527-1327.

Briensburg School Reunion

May 10: There will be a Briensburg School Reunion on Saturday, May 10 at Miller Park from 10:00 am - 6:00 PM. Begins with a meet and greet at 10:00 and a potluck lunch around noon. Please bring enough food for the ones coming with you and some extra to share. You'll also need to bring plates and tableware along with tea or soft drinks. We will provide the ice.
The reunion is for all former students, teachers, staff, friends, folks who live/lived in the community, relatives or friends of the Briensburg community. Everyone in invited.
We hope to put together a pictorial video. If anyone has photos we would love to include them in our video. We are especially interested in locating older photos from the early years of the school. If you have special memories of the school you would like to share by writing we would love to have those also. You can contact Wanda (Washburn) Garland at 270-703-2343 or w.garland@mchsi.com. Please help get the word out by contacting your Briensburg friends and getting this information to them. We plan to end the day with special music and stories from some former students, staff, family or friends of Briensburg School.

Relay For Life Yard Sale

May 22:  The First Christian Church at 2515 South Main St. in Benton, KY, will have a yard sale on Thursday, May 22, from 7:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m. to benefit the Marshall County Relay for Life. The church is across from Priceless IGA.

Join TeamKID at CCUMC

The Calvert City United Methodist Church will begin TeamKID Wednesday nights from 6-7 and Sunday mornings from 10-10:45. The theme of TeamKID is "Jumping the Hurdles" where children will learn how to get over the hurdles in life with God's help. It will be a great time of games and learning about ourselves, others and God. We invite any child in grades kindergarten through fifth grade to join us for TeamKID. Feel free to call the church office for more information - 395-4746.
