Concert to benefit Lester family
There will be a Benefit Concert for Shain, Steffany, and Lexie Lester Friday, August 22, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at Southland Baptist Temple in Paducah. The Gaither Style singing will help offset medical expenses for Stephanie who was severely injured in a Livingston County traffic crash in February. The concert is sponsored by the River City Area Gospel Music Fellowship Association. A love offering will be accepted for the family during the event. For more info call 270-928-1122. 4th Annual Sash Howard Memorial Ride
A family event for all ages, the 4th annual Sash Howard Memorial Ride will be held August 23rd at Mike Miller Park. Registration begins at 11 a.m. Ride leaves at 2 p.m. sharp and returns at 5-5:30 p.m. Dinner will be served as soon as ride returns. Door prizes to be given at this time. Cheerleading clinic to be held at high school
MCHS Cheerleaders are hosting their annual Elementary Cheerleading Clinic for boys and girls kindergarten thru 5th grade on Saturday August 23rd in the main gym at Marshall County High School. The clinic begins at 8:30 and concludes with the parent program at 11:30! All participants will have their picture made with the cheerleaders and receive a free t-shirt. The cheer clinic participants will be admitted free to the Marshals first football game and will cheer on the sidelines with the MCHS Cheerleaders at the Alliance Bowl, Friday, August 29.
Poker run to help battered children
The River City Eagles will host Ride to Beat Out Child Abuse, a poker run, on Saturday, August 23, 2008. Registration will be held at 1919 Cairo Road in Paducah from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. The registration fee is $10, with all proceeds benefiting Child Watch Children's Advocacy Center, Inc. A rain date has been scheduled for Saturday, September 6.
Child Watch offers an array of free services. 24-Hour Crisis Line, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate Program), Child Abuse/Abduction Prevention Education Program, Children's Medical Clinic, Community Awareness Program, Counseling/Therapy Programs, Forensic Interviewing and Court Advocates.
The Damron family annual reunion
The Damron family will hold their annual reunion on Saturday, August 30, 2008, at Tolu, Kentucky in the Community Center, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Music provided by the Hampton singers in the p.m. Pot luck meal. American Legion Post 144 on Ridge Road in Gilbertsville will be having a fish fry on August 30, 2008 from 4pm to 6 pm.

The Dycusburg School Reunion will be held on Sunday, August 31 at 1:00 p.m. at the Methodist Church yard. Pot Luck with barbeque and soft drinks will be provided. Family and friends of students and teachers are invited. Bring your lawn chairs.

From Summer Boating to Boating Safety Class
The hot summer days for boating are drawing to a close, and the kids are back in school, leaving more time for you to increase your safe boating skills. The Kuttawa Flotilla of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering a free safe boating class to help answer your boating questions, and to help keep your family safe, as well as keep the waterways clean while enjoying our beautiful Twin Lakes.
This one-day safe boating course entitled, “About Boating Safely” will be conducted in Eddyville at the Lyon County Public Library, in the meeting room. The date is Saturday, September 13, 2008, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The class will conclude by 4:30 p.m. There is a nominal fee of $20 to cover the textbook and materials.
Some of the subject matters that will be covered in the course by our experienced U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary instructors are as follows: Know Your Boat, Before You Get Underway, Navigating the Waterways, Operating Your Boat/PWC Safely, Legal Requirements of Boating, Boating Emergencies…What to Do, and Enjoying Water Sports with Your Boat.
